Malindi: The death toll in Kenya from those who died of hunger after following the preacher's words has risen to 95, including children, with the police recovering the bodies in the coastal city of Malindi and an expected increase in the death toll.

The victims had gone into the Shakahola forest to starve themselves to death after being urged by preacher Paul McKenzie to do so if they wanted to see God.

The Kenyan government has responded to the tragedy by declaring a curfew in the affected area and launching an investigation. The police have also rescued 34 people who were starving to death.

Shockingly, the graves of five members of a family were found in the Shakahola forest, and 112 people have gone missing from the region recently. The Red Cross Society of Kenya estimates that 213 people are yet to be found.

Paul McKenzie, the preacher who delivered the fatal speech, has been arrested but pleaded not guilty. He claims that his organization was dissolved in 2019. The police are investigating the matter, including who buried the dead and have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.

The incident has caused outrage and condemnation from the Kenyan public, highlighting the dangers of blind faith and the importance of responsible preaching. It also underscores the need for greater awareness and education on the dangers of religious extremism and the need for critical thinking in matters of faith.
