Hyderabad: A 60-year-old Muslim man and his teenage son were allegedly assaulted by a group linked to Hindutva outfits in Telangana’s Jagtial district on April 1 over claims that they were selling beef during Hanuman Jayanti.

The incident reportedly took place in Varshakonda village under the Ibrahimpatnam police station limits in Metpally.

According to the police, Mohammed Qureshi and his 16-year-old son Mohammed Anas were meat sellers who sourced their products from Nizamabad, adding that they had sold meat the previous day without any objections from locals, Siasat Daily reported.

Officials said that a group of around 15 to 20 individuals, dressed in saffron attire, attacked the father and son. Videos that surfaced online appear to show the mob dragging Anas and assaulting both victims.

In the footage, some individuals were allegedly heard instructing others to strip the boy and demanding that he open the package to verify the contents. The clips also show the victims being beaten and kicked while slogans were raised.

In one of the videos, a person is reportedly heard cautioning the group not to be excessively violent to avoid causing death, while another shows Anas tied to a pole as his injured father stands nearby. The visuals also indicate that the assault took place in public view, with bystanders present during the incident.
