Telegram, the widely-used messaging app, has introduced a significant update, enhancing its calling feature, introducing a unique deletion animation, and implementing substantial improvements to its bot platform.

Following the recent Christmas update that brought channel appearance customisations and post-sharing capabilities, the latest update has been released for both Android and iOS platforms.

The version 10.5.0 update, launched on December 31, focuses on refining the calling functionality.

The revamped calling interface boasts dynamic animations and background changes, providing a more visually appealing experience during incoming, active, or concluded calls. The update aims to reduce resource consumption, thereby minimising battery drainage and ensuring smoother performance, particularly on older devices.

Telegram promises additional enhancements in call connection and audio quality in future updates, along with current call quality improvements and bug fixes.

In tandem with the improved calling features, Telegram introduces a unique animation for message deletion, resembling the Thanos snap-style effect. Initially available solely for auto-deleted messages on iOS in November, this disintegration animation is now incorporated into all message deletions across both Android and iOS platforms.

Moreover, Telegram proudly presents what it terms the most extensive update to its bot platform in history. Bots, pivotal for incorporating automated tools into the messaging app, now possess heightened capabilities. According to the Telegram blog, bots can now respond to messages, manage reactions, quotes, and links, and offer replies to various chats or topics, among other functionalities.

Previously, an October update brought advanced reply options allowing users to quote specific message portions for replies. Additionally, the app received customisation options for link previews and account colour for Premium users.
