Trump claims Iran seeks ceasefire; Tehran yet to respond
text_fieldsWashington: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday claimed that Iran’s president was seeking a ceasefire ahead of his address to the American people, though there was no immediate response from Tehran.
Trump made the remarks on his Truth Social platform, referring to Iran’s leadership as a “new regime president,” despite the country continuing under its current administration.
He added that any ceasefire would depend on the Strait of Hormuz being “open, free, clear,” warning that until then, the United States would continue its offensive. “Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!” Trump wrote.
Iran has not officially responded to the statement. However, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with Al Jazeera aired late Tuesday, indicated that Tehran was prepared to continue the conflict.
“You cannot speak to the people of Iran in the language of threats and deadlines,” Araghchi said. “We do not set any deadline for defending ourselves.”
