Microsoft has made it clear that its AI assistant, Copilot, will not include any form of erotic or pornographic content.

The company’s AI chief, Mustafa Suleyman, confirmed that Microsoft has no plans to offer “simulated erotica” through its chatbot services.

Suleyman stated, “That's just not a service we're going to provide. Other companies will build that.” His remarks come amid growing global interest in AI-generated sexual content and the rapid expansion of the AI sextech market.

The clarification follows Microsoft’s release of 12 new AI features on October 23 as part of its fall update. The new additions include an avatar function, collaboration tools, agentic capabilities for the Edge browser, and enhanced health-related query handling. However, none of these developments will include adult or sexual content.

Suleyman’s stance marks a clear departure from OpenAI’s approach.

Recently, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reiterated the company’s “Treat adult users as adults” principle, announcing that ChatGPT will soon allow verified adult users to generate erotica. The decision by Microsoft is notable, as its Copilot service is powered by many of the same AI models as OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Microsoft, however, has also begun integrating Anthropic’s models into Copilot.

Other tech players are exploring the adult AI space.

Elon Musk’s xAI, for example, offers a “not safe for work” (NSFW) mode for Grok Imagine and the AI avatar Ani, though it does not allow nudity generation. Earlier, companies like Replika and Character.AI introduced roleplay-based erotic chat services, with Replika amassing over 10 million downloads on Google Play.

According to Market Growth Reports, the global AI sextech market was valued at $2.33 billion (roughly ₹20,500 crore) in 2024 and is projected to reach $5.43 billion (about ₹47,000 crore) by 2033, growing at a compound annual rate of 11.15 percent.

Despite this growth, Microsoft’s stance remains firm - Copilot will not engage in or simulate erotic content, keeping its focus on productivity, creativity, and responsible AI use.
