India’s mobile download speed makes a big leap: study
text_fieldsNew Delhi: India’s mobile download speed has risen to 79 th position in global rankings, shows a study.
The tremendous speed of media mobile download comes after the increased rollout of 5G in the nation, The Indian Express reported.
The data from Ookla’s Speedtest Global Index also showed India previously standing at a 105th for the month of November.
The media mobile download speeds in India jumped from 18.26 Mbps to 25.29 Mbps, Ookla data said.
The speed began to be felt in December after telecom operators added more cities to the newer networks.
Now smartphone users can switch to faster network with their 5G-ready devices paying no increased cost.
The report however shows that upload speeds remain poor in India at single digit mark.
Despite doing better in downloads, India’s ranking in fixed broadband was down by one spot to 81 compared to the 80th ranking in November.
Nevertheless, the overall fixed median download speed saw a nominal increase from 49.11 Mbps in November to 49.14 Mbps in December.
As for mobile internet and fixed broadband speeds, India still lags behind many other countries.
In December, Speedtest Global Index showed Qatar as leading the chart for global median mobile speeds and Singapore in fixed broadband.
