Supreme Court refuses interim bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case linked to the controversial Delhi liqour policy case.
Representing Kejriwal, Senior Advocate Abhishek Singhvi told the court that it is a "strange situation".
Abhishek Singhvi said Kejriwal was granted interim bail in a Prevention of Money Laundering Case (PMLA) on May 10.
‘He then got interim bail from Supreme Court in July. He was granted bail in a CBI case by the lower court. In this way, three bail orders were given,’ Singhvi was quoted as saying, terming Kejriwal’s imprisonment "insurance arrest".
Seeking the CBI's response on the Kejriwal’s bail plea, the bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan posted the matter for August 23.
The senior lawyer told the court that CBI’s arrest of AAP leader 1 year and 10 months after the case was registered is not tenable in law, adding that ‘We have filed for interim bail. He will easily pass the triple test.’
The Supreme Court however refused to give the bail, saying ‘Don't say interim bail, we will not give interim bail.’
Delhi High Court on August 5 upheld the arrest of the Chief Minister saying there was no malice in the acts of the CBI, according to NDTV.
Introduced in November 2021, the Delhi Liquor Policy was withdrawn in September the following year amid allegations of corruption; subsequently, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena ordered a CBI probe into the policy.
