Telangana's Rahul Srivatshav P became the 74th Grandmaster of India after crossing the 2500 (Elo points) barrier at the live FIDE rating at the 9th Cattolica Chess Festival in Italy. The 19-year-old has crossed the Elo live rating of 2,500 after drawing his eighth round game against Grandmaster Levan Pantsulaia in the Cattolica event.

Currently, Srivatshav has a 2468 Elo rating.

By the time rating of 2500 was crossed by him on Friday, Srivastava had already achieved five GM norms.

A player has to secure three GM norms along with crossing the live rating of 2500 Elo points to become a GM.

"India one more step closer to getting 100 Grandmasters! Meet our newest addition to the elite club, 19-year-old Rahul Srivatshav from Telangana, India's 74th Grandmaster! A big congratulations to Rahul, his coach and family!," All India Chess Federation president Sanjay Kapoor tweeted on Saturday.

In January, Bharath Subramaniyam became the 73rd GM of the country. Becoming a Grandmaster in 1988, legendary Viswanathan Anand was the first in India to hold the title.
