Amidst allegations about clandestine contacts of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders with a top officer of Kerala in charge of law and order, and with the officer himself clarifying that he had held consultation with an RSS leader, more clues have emerged about some mysterious undercurrents. ADGP MR Ajith Kumar said that he had a meeting with RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabala, an admission that came after several revelations and allegations. The silence of individuals concerned, including the Chief Minister, is tell-tale. The Ajith Kumar-Hosabala meeting was held in Thrissur in May 2023. Apart from this, information has also emerged that Ajith Kumar met RSS leader Ram Madhav in Kovalam last December. Things like why the police officer, who is also considered to be the chief minister's confidant, met the RSS leaders secretly, given that these meetings would be with the full knowledge of the chief minister, and the significance of these meetings are yet to come out.

The rumours are also being strengthened by the stand of the Chief Minister who is already in protecting mode regarding Ajith Kumar. Most recently, the CPM leadership and the Left Front constituents have also disowned the meeting, which puts the onus of clarifying matters now on the Chief Minister. And actions taken so far following the serious allegations raised by ruling party MLA of Nilambur PV Anvar, are not sufficient either to clear the suspicions. The MLA says that despite his complaining to the Chief Minister's office about many criminal acts like hacking phones, causing others to kill, stealing smuggled gold, imprisoning innocent people in false cases, accepting crores of rupees as bribes from the person who propagated hatred towards other religions, no action was taken.

The actions the Chief Minister took in the context of the legislator’s revelations about them before the media and direct complaints lodged with the Chief Minister turned out to be grossly inadequate. Not only was the accused ADGP not removed from his post, but the investigation team to probe the matter included two of his own subordinates! One would then wonder to convince whom such a probe was ordered. Why did the chief minister keep mum even after the special branch informed him in a timely manner about the meeting that the ADGP had openly admitted to and why did he not move that day?

If the Chief Minister who had removed TP Senkumar from the post of DGP for his leanings towards RSS, not only remained passive during the ADGP-RSS meeting but also concealed the information, the nature of that relationship needs to come out. For, the sum and substance of the allegations being raised now is that the Chief Minister connived to enable the BJP to open an account in the election and ADGP acted as his go-between. If this is true, then neither the CPM nor the Left Front can wash their hands off the matter. The evidence coming out now also lends credence to the allegations that the police worked to disrupt the Thrissur Pooram festival and the ADGP and DGP who were there remained as its passive spectators.

It is suspicious that Ankit Ashok, who was blamed last year for the unreasonable security measures at the Thrissur Pooram, was appointed this year too and Ajith Kumar did not intervene despite the poor performance of the Pooram. Those including PV Anvar have raised questions about the ADGP's role not only in the matter of Pooram but also in many matters related to social and communal peace. In this content, what people expect are precise answers, not a farce of investigation.
