At least a protest standing straight…
text_fieldsThe United States, a country with a history of bombing anywhere and a crazy president who pretends to be a global dictator with the arrogance of doing whatever he wants, and no one will question, is once again challenging the international legal system. Not only has it invaded another sovereign country, but also kidnapped its president and his wife and put them on trial in the United States. This time, the Latin American country of Venezuela and its ruler, President Nicolás Maduro, have been the victims of America's deceit. Venezuelans have started fleeing in search of asylum. American intervention in oil-rich Venezuela has been a major threat to the country's economy and peace for years. It is against this backdrop that the awarding of this year's Nobel Peace Prize to pro-American opposition leader Maria Machado was controversial. The military of another country forcibly removing an elected government from power is a new blow to the global rule of law. The fact that interests, not the law, decide matters is a symptom of naked anarchy. Not stopping this is not only a failure of the world, but also suicide. In the first 25 years of this century alone, in Latin America alone, there has been unjustified American intervention in at least six countries; it continues in Venezuela and Nicaragua.
The US is not only guilty of violating the law. As it has often done in the past, the country has even fabricated the justification for military aggression and intervention. More than two and a half years before, the reason it gave for attacking Iraq was that it had weapons of mass destruction: a 100 per cent lie that the US itself later had to admit. What it is saying about Iran is that it has plans to build nuclear weapons. The US, which possesses nuclear weapons, is the only one in world history to use those weapons - and it used them completely unnecessarily. It is the same America that is making such false accusations against other countries. The Yankee army arrives in other places under the pretext of bringing democracy. This was the argument in Libya and elsewhere. The America that overthrew Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq in Iran and imposed the US puppet Reza Shah Pahlavi on that nation again, and that tried to stamp Hamas, which won a majority in the free elections in Palestine, with the label of terrorism for Israel, is reciting the scripture of democracy. In American democratic philosophy, no nation is allowed to follow the left. The reason given for invading Grenada and Vietnam was to stop the spread of communism. Different reasons are given for attacking Venezuela. It’s narcotic terrorism, one of Venezuela's crimes.
It is claimed that Maduro is smuggling drugs to the United States. America's style is to attack countries that do not yield to America, with some excuse. At a time when two hegemonic blocs were destroying the peace of the world, India had led a non-aligned movement with no other interests than the welfare of the people and world peace. Our ideals were echoed in international forums like the United Nations. It determined the decisions of the UN and its member states. However, today, we have lost that influence by humbly submitting to America. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, which gave a vague response that "the developments here in Venezuela are worrying," even forgot that Trump's America had militarily overthrown a sovereign country. Forget Trump’s tariff war and false claims against India; the government has also forgotten India’s long history of suffering the ravages of colonial rule. Trump, who does what he wants, will not hesitate to invade Greenland, Canada, or Iran. We should not have to be complicit in ensuring India’s place on that long list of victims. Sometimes we have to stand up straight and say the truth: Trump must be laughing when we soften it as “worrying developments”.
