New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, facing sedition charges for allegedly raising "anti-India" slogans, were remanded to three-day police custody on Wednesday, sources said.

The proceedings were not held in Patiala House Courts complex here due to security concern.

According to sources, the proceedings were held in a police station in south Delhi and a magistrate was called for conducting the remand proceedings.

The magistrate allowed Delhi Police to quiz them for three days.

Both the students surrendered before police in the midnight outside a gate of the university.

A case against Khalid and Bhattacharya was registered at Vasant Kunj police station.

Kanhaiya was arrested in a sedition case on February 12 after the event held on the university campus against the execution of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. He allegedly shouted anti-India slogans at the event.
