The Indian Consulate in Dubai expressed grief over the tragedy and confirmed that several Indian workers were among those who lost their lives in the accident.
"Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Dubai that claimed the lives of several Indian workers," the Consulate said in a post on X.
The mission said it was working closely with local authorities to provide all possible assistance and support to those affected. Officials from the Consulate also visited the hospital and met the injured Indian nationals.
"Our heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the grieving families during this difficult time," the mission said.
According to Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had come to a sudden stop in the middle of Emirates Road due to a technical fault.
"The bus driver, who allegedly failed to pay attention and maintain a safe distance, then rammed into the truck from behind," he said in a statement.
The crash resulted in seven deaths and nine injuries. Of the injured, five sustained serious injuries while four suffered moderate injuries. All were rushed to hospital for treatment.
Brigadier Juma Salem said specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section were immediately dispatched to the scene to inspect the site and collect evidence to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
He added that traffic patrols regulated vehicular movement, secured the accident site and facilitated access for emergency and rescue teams. Authorities also removed the damaged truck and minibus to restore normal traffic flow on the road.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
