Eight workers killed in molten iron spill at Vizag Steel Plant

Visakhapatnam: At least eight workers of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), popularly known as the Vizag Steel Plant, were killed and six others injured on Monday after molten iron spilled on them during an industrial accident, officials said.
According to information shared with Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav by Visakhapatnam district health authorities, multiple casualties were reported following the incident. An official confirmed that eight workers lost their lives, while six others sustained injuries, some of them grievous.
"Eight workers were killed, and six others were injured, some of them grievously," an official told PTI.
Earlier in the day, officials involved in the rescue operation had confirmed the recovery of five bodies, indicating that the death toll could rise.
"We are undertaking rescue operations," an official had said as efforts continued at the accident site.
According to police, the accident occurred when molten iron being transported in a bucket by a crane suddenly spilled on workers.
Officials said the molten iron was at an extremely high temperature of around 1,600 degrees Celsius, making the incident particularly devastating.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office said multiple workers had lost their lives in the industrial accident.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and directed all concerned departments to work in coordination to provide necessary assistance and support to the victims and their families.
Police said rescue and recovery operations were carried out immediately after the accident, while authorities continued efforts to assess the circumstances that led to the spill.
