Dubai International Airport remains world's busiest with 60.2M seats in 2024
text_fieldsDubai International Airport (DXB) has been recognized as the busiest international airport of 2024, handling an impressive 60.236 million airline seats, according to data from global aviation consultancy OAG. This figure reflects a 7% increase compared to the previous year, solidifying Dubai’s status as a leading global aviation hub.
DXB recorded a 12% rise in the number of seats compared to the pre-pandemic levels of 2019. This resurgence has been fueled by the robust operations of Emirates and flydubai, both headquartered at the airport. Together, these carriers serve more than 265 destinations, reinforcing Dubai's strategic position in global connectivity.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) also reported over 1 million air movements in UAE skies during 2024, with Emirates Flight 305 from Shanghai marking the one-millionth air movement on December 22. This milestone reveals the UAE's thriving aviation sector and its resilience post-pandemic.
While Dubai International led the international category, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport claimed the top spot as the busiest global airport in 2024, accommodating 62.7 million seats across both domestic and international flights. DXB ranked second overall, followed by Tokyo International, London Heathrow and Dallas/Fort Worth International. Other top contenders included Denver International, Guangzhou Baiyun, Istanbul, Shanghai Pudong International and Chicago O’Hare International.
With its continued growth trajectory, Dubai International Airport remains a cornerstone of global aviation, leveraging its strategic location, world-class infrastructure and strong airline partnerships. As 2025 unfolds, DXB's performance will be pivotal in shaping the future of international air travel.
