Embassy of India in Riyadh marks 77th Independence Day with spectacular programes

Riyadh: The Embassy of India in Riyadh hosted a celebration to mark the 77th Independence Day of India on Tuesday, uniting the Indian community and friends of India in a display of patriotism and cultural pride.

The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout of over five hundred attendees, including esteemed Indian Embassy officials, journalists, and enthusiastic members of the Indian community residing in Saudi Arabia.

The highlight of the celebration was the dignified hoisting of the Indian tricolour by His Excellency Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Following the flag hoisting, Dr Khan read aloud the heartfelt message from the Hon'ble President of India, which resonated with Indians worldwide on this momentous occasion.

In his inspiring address to the assembled gathering, Ambassador Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan underscored the deepening bonds between India and Saudi Arabia. He conveyed warm wishes to the Indian Diaspora and reflected on the significance of the "Amrit Kaal" – the era of revitalization – that India is embarking upon, aiming to transform the nation into a developed powerhouse by the year 2047.

The celebration continued with a cultural program, showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of India through performances by members of the Indian diaspora. Additionally, a photo exhibition was unveiled, commemorating the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and struggles that shaped the nation's history.

In a heartening gesture, the winners of the recently concluded Online Freedom Quiz, organized by the Indian Embassy, were felicitated during the event.

This year's Independence Day celebration held special significance as it marked the culmination of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', a series of events commemorating the 75th anniversary of India's independence, which officially commenced on March 12, 2021.

In Saudi Arabia, the Indian Embassy demonstrated its dedication to fostering camaraderie by organizing a plethora of iconic events throughout the celebration period, including cultural galas, film festivals, golf tournaments, distinguished speaker series, yoga events, and multiple exhibitions.

The commemoration was especially meaningful as it coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Saudi Arabia, showcasing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations.

Particularly noteworthy was the Embassy's participation in the "Meri Maati Mera Desh" campaign, paying homage to the motherland and honouring the sacrifices of those who have safeguarded the nation's security.

The campaign was marked by a special event on August 12, 2023, where the Embassy families and Indian community joined forces to celebrate and express their gratitude. The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign further demonstrated the widespread enthusiasm and pride that the Indian community holds for their country.
