IPL 2026: Samson's century, Hosein's haul hand CSK crushing 103-run win over MI

Mumbai: Akeal Hosein's devastating four-wicket spell powered Chennai Super Kings to a commanding 103-run victory over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026's Match 33 at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, as MI crumbled to 104 all out chasing 208.

Opener Sanju Samson anchored CSK's innings with an unbeaten 101 off 56 balls—featuring 10 fours and six sixes—propelling them to 207 for six despite regular strikes from MI's bowlers.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Samson blitzed 26 runs in the opening two overs, including 19 off Hardik Pandya, before Gaikwad departed for 22. Sarfaraz Khan chipped in 14 until Mitchell Santner bowled him, leaving CSK at 73 for two after the powerplay. Allah Ghazanfar's carrom ball removed Shivam Dube, and Dewald Brevis' counterattacking 21 off 11 ended to Ashwani Kumar. Samson raced to fifty in 26 balls, surviving cameos from Karthik (18, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah) and Jamie Overton (15), before dominating the death overs. Ghazanfar (two for 25) and Kumar (two for 37) led MI's fightback.

MI's chase faltered immediately. Danish Malewar edged Hosein to Samson for a duck, Mukesh Choudhary clean-bowled Quinton de Kock for seven, and Hosein castled Naman Dhir. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma rebuilt to 69 for three at 10 overs, their 73-run stand broken when Hosein dismissed Varma for 37 off 29. Captain Pandya fell for nought to Noor Ahmad, followed by Sherfane Rutherford next ball. Hosein then yorked Suryakumar for 36, Shardul Thakur (concussion sub for Santner) managed six, and Gurjapneet Singh ended it by removing Bumrah.

Hosein's 4 for 17 proved matchwinning, with Noor Ahmad taking two for 24.
