As protests against Israel's actions in Gaza continue across US universities, Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi militia has extended support to students facing suspension for their participation in the demonstrations.
Students at numerous campuses in the United States have been demonstrating against Israel's military operations in Gaza, urging President Joe Biden to intervene and calling for divestment from companies supporting Israel's government.
Responding to the suspension of some students involved in the protests, an official from Sanaa University, run by the Houthis, stated, "We are serious about welcoming students that have been suspended from US universities for supporting Palestinians." The university offered a place for these students to continue their studies in Yemen.
The Houthi's gesture garnered mixed reactions, with some Yemenis expressing sarcasm on social media.
Meanwhile, CEO Andrew Dudum of Hims, a company specializing in health treatments, voiced his support for the protesters. Dudum, of Palestinian descent, encouraged them to explore job opportunities at his company, emphasizing "moral courage" over academic qualifications.
The protests, which began at Columbia University, have led to over 2,000 arrests at various universities, including the University of Texas at Austin and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Demonstrators advocate for university divestment from corporations backing Israel's military actions in Gaza, sparking debates about free speech and academic institutions' involvement in global politics.
