Deficiency of Vitamin D found in 80 per cent of Covid-19 patients, reveals a study. The findings reveal that 80 per cent of patients hospitalized in Spain who are in a critical situation due to the virus are deficient in sunshine vitamin. The study also finds that majority of the people under treatment from the virus had vitamin D deficiency as well.

Around 216 Covid-19 patients and 197 healthy individuals in a hospital in Spain were examined as part of the new study published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.

The severity of the disease was critical in those 80 per cent of people deficient in vitamin D. The study also revealed that among the patients; men had lower levels of vitamin D in their body than women.

The relationship between vitamin D and Covid-19 virus had been a topic of debate ever since the eruption of the pandemic.

Though some studies claimed that vitamin D could be used to increase the immunity against the virus, it had not been scientifically proven.

Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D for the human body. It is an essential vitamin for maintaining strong and healthy bones and helps the body absorb magnesium, calcium and phosphorus.
