Bihar restaurant fined Rs 3500 for failing to serve sambar with masala dosa
text_fieldsPatna: A restaurant in Buxar, Bihar, found itself embroiled in a legal dispute after it neglected to serve sambar with a customer's masala dosa.
The incident occurred on August 15, 2022, during lawyer Manish Gupta's birthday celebration.
According to reports, Gupta visited a restaurant called 'Namak' in Buxar and purchased a special masala dosa for Rs 140. When he noticed that the sambar which is usually served with the dosa was missing, he inquired about the omission. The restaurant responded unsatisfactorily, saying, "Do you want to buy the whole restaurant for Rs 140?" Dissatisfied with this response, Gupta decided to take legal action and filed a complaint with the District Consumer Commission.
The Division Bench of the Consumer Commission found the restaurant in Bihar guilty of negligence and imposed a fine of Rs 3,500. The penalty was divided into two parts: Rs 1,500 as the basic fine and Rs 2,000 as litigation fees. The Commission recognised the mental, physical, and economic distress experienced by the litigant and deemed the penalty justified, reported NDTV.
Masala dosa has become a popular choice for breakfast or lunch across the country. It is typically enjoyed with chutneys, sambar, and masala.
