Kochi: The early results of the fiercely fought by-election at Thrikkakara shows the curve slanting in favour of Uma Thomas the UDF candidate and wife of deceased leader P.T Thomas, securing over 4,000 votes against her archrival Jo Joseph of LDF in the second round of counting.

As of 9 am Friday morning, Uma Thomas has garnered comfortable lead in the 21 booths at Edappally, Ponekkara and Devankulangara.

She has surged past Jo Joseph in Karukappally, Mamangalam and Padivattom as the counting is over in the second round.

She is performing way better compared to her husband's lead of 2,400 votes in the second round in the 2021 Assembly election.

The Congress workers are elated by the windfall lead the party is making across the constituency. The Hindu reported that the Left failed to make dents in the traditional urban strongholds of the Congress.

Polls pundits were uncertain about the outcome of the polls, given the pitched campaign both fronts unleashed in the constituency, alongside with many believing that the drama surrounding the arrest of PC George playing into the hand so BJP in the constituency.

The counting of votes started off at 8 a.m on Friday with counting the postal ballots. The early trends with a decisive curve is expected to emerge around 9 a.m.

As the counting is to go for total 21 rounds with votes cast in each booth will be counted in the first 11 rounds. The final results will be out by 11 a.m. let's wait for it.
