Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday endorsed China’s four-point proposal for peace and stability in West Asia, saying Beijing has remained on the “right side of history” in regional peace efforts.

Araghchi made the remarks in Beijing after talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

In a post on X, Araghchi said both sides reaffirmed Iran’s right to protect its sovereignty and dignity and added that Tehran appreciated China’s proposal aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.

He said Iran trusted China and expected it to continue playing a positive role in ending conflict and promoting peace in the region. Araghchi also voiced support for creating a new post-war regional framework capable of balancing development and security.

“When it comes to its relations with Iran, China has always been on the right side of history,” Araghchi said, adding that the four guidelines proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping were “totally accurate.”

Xi had presented the four-point plan on April 14 during a meeting in Beijing with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.

The proposal called for peaceful coexistence and the development of a shared and sustainable security architecture for West Asia and the Gulf region. Xi also stressed respect for national sovereignty and said the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of countries in the region must be protected.

The Chinese president further said personnel, institutions and facilities belonging to all nations should receive adequate protection.
