POCSO case against 3 Reporter TV staff for indecent representation of minor
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Following a complaint from the Director of the Department of Woman and Child Development, the Cantonment police in Thiruvananthapuram filed a case under the POCSO act against three people of the Reporter TV channel for allegedly using a double entendre against a participant in the state school youth festival that just ended in Thiruvananthapuram.
They were charged with indecent representation of a minor girl through electronic media.
According to the cantonment SHO, the accused in the case are Arun Kumar, Shabas Ahammed, and an unidentified individual. On Wednesday evening, the FIR was lodged.
The Kerala State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has already requested a report on the footage shown by the station during its coverage of the state school arts festival.
The case concerns a discussion that Arun Kumar hosts in which he comments on a reporter's video report on Oppana, one of the performing arts competitions, Onmanorama reported.
The discussion garnered heated replies from numerous corners, with many claiming that the statements were made in bad taste. The conversation revolved around a video played to a romantic music from a popular Malayalam film in which the reporter is seen courting a schoolgirl dressed in Oppana attire, and the video finishes with a teacher bringing the students inside.
The video, which was shared on social media as part of the state school arts festival coverage, was criticised for its inappropriate tone. The channel has taken down the controversial video from all platforms.
