Byju's puts transfer option before staff after resignation pressure went to public
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Staff at ed-tech unicorn Byju's Thiruvananthapuram office, who earlier alleged that the company was forcing them to resign, said they have now been offered a transfer option by the company when the matter went to the public.
A report in The News Minute said that the employees met Kerala Labour Minister V Sivankutty, seeking his intervention for proper compensation from the company. The company which had not made any official communication in regards to employees' resignation, issued a notice to all employees at the Thiruvananthapuram office, offering them the option to opt for a transfer, the report said.
The TNN report further quoted employees of the Byju's Thiruvananthapuram office saying that the shutdown news was doing the round for two weeks which was later confirmed verbally by the company's HR officer asking them to resign with a threat of termination if not put their paper voluntarily.
The report said that the company demanded resignation from employees who are working in the media and content creation sections.
About 70 staff had laid their papers over the fear that they would not be given exit papers if they were terminated. This prompted the other staff to contact the Prathidwani, a welfare organisation for Technopark employees, through which the Labour Minister.
Hours after the meeting with the minister, on the night of October 25, Byju's company management which had so far stonewalled the employees sent a 'reconciliatory' email to them, saying the office has made provisions to accommodate the entire Thiruvananthapuram team in their Bengaluru operations.
