Death of baby girl: Mother arrested

Alappuzha : A mother who allegedly killed her one-and-a half year daughter by suffocating,  was arrested from Pattanakkad near Cherthala on Sunday. This is the latest in the series of distressing incidents against children in the state.

Adisha, daughter of Sharon-Athira couple from Kollampally Colony  was rushed to Chertala taluk hospital along with neighbors, had told to doctors that the child was found unconscious in the bedroom.  Doctors cast doubts over the mother’s version and informed the police.

Police took the mother into custody, who later confessed the crime after thorough questioning. The body was handed over to the relatives after postmortem.

Athira and Sharon had been kept under custody for a few days in a case of torturing her mother-in-law.  The child had stayed in jail along with them during that time.
