Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P. Sriramakrishnan said that Ethics of Committee of Kerala Legislative Assembly will examine the comments made by PC George MLA against the nun who filed a sexual abuse complaint against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

Action will be taken after getting the report of the committee, the Speaker said. Assembly members are supposed to ensure that protection of judicial and legal systems are accessible to the public. It is quite unfortunate that such a comment came at a time when a case is registered and due course of action is followed on the basis of the complaints by women.

The Speaker has not received any complaints against PK Sasi. But he will not be entitled to any special privilege as an MLA in the case.

The special assembly session, called to have comments and suggestions regarding rebuilding of the state was not as effective as expected, the speaker said. There should have been much more serious discussions. There is no sense in blaming that assembly sessions are squandering of the public money. If so, it will be better to close the assembly building, he said.
