Flood havoc: World Bank team to visit Kerala on Tuesday

New Delhi: A team of World Bank officials will visit Kerala on Tuesday to access the loss incurred to the state due to floods.
The visit will continue till September 22.
The World Bank team will be accompanied by another teal of officials from Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The 20-member team will be divided into 8 groups to take stock of the disaster-hit areas.
The state is expecting to borrow a loan of Rs 5, 000 crore which have long term payment option from the World Bank. The amount is estimated to construct roads, bridges and other infrastructure that were destroyed in the flood.
In the preliminary review, Kerala is facing a loss of Rs 20, 000 crore from the floods. Kerala hopes to get at least 25 per cent of the amount from World Bank.
Earlier, World Bank under the chairmanship of the acting director in India had held primary discussions with the representatives of Kerala including Chief Minister. It has decided to conduct a detailed review of the flood havoc in the state.
The centre had granted permission for the visit as requested by the state government.
