MCI bars admissions to Palakkad and Manjeri medical colleges
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The medical college has asked not to renew the permission for admission to the MBBS seats in the government medical colleges at Palakkad and Manjeri for the academic year 2018-19. Both the medical colleges have 100 MBBS seats each. Deficiencies including faculty shortage are pointed out to be reasons for cancelling the admission process.
However, a senior health department official said that the department has been given one-month's time for solving the deficiencies. "We will be giving an assurance to the MCI that deficiencies will be solved within the stipulated time," said the official.
The executive committee observed that there was a deficiency of 40% faculty and a shortage of 52% of resident doctors at Palakkad medical college.
It also noted that the medical superintendent who is holding the position is not qualified for the post as he lacks mandatory administrative experience of 10 years.
In the assessment it was found that there was no data of clinical materials like outpatient department attendance, bed occupancy, number of deliveries, major and minor operations, radiological and laboratory investigations being performed which is statutory for a hospital.
Failure in fulfilling the deficiencies within the fixed time will affect the permanent registration of the MBBS students who are passing out from the college this year.
Lack of equipment and infrastructural deficiencies are pointed out as drawbacks of Manjeri medical college.
