UDF supporters hold 70-km-long banner to protest govt policies

Thiruvananthapuram: In a record of sorts, hundreds of supporters of the opposition Congress-led UDF in the State on Tuesday held a 70-km-long cloth banner to protest against various policies of the central and state governments.
The banner -- with the signatures of as many as 10,843,450 persons -- was put up for three minutes at 5 p.m. along the National Highway-47 by United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders and workers led by UDF Chairman and Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala.
The banner with signatures from supporters was prepared during the month-long statewide rally of Chennithala that ended here in December.

D. Sateeshan said since the Guinness World Records do not take into account the records set by political parties, officials from the Asian Book of Records were present to record the event.
The organisers claimed that two records were made -- the longest cloth banner and maximum signatures on a single banner.
The Congress leadership now plans to exhibit this banner in Delhi soon.
The banner was prepared by over 23,000 booth committees of the UDF across Kerala.
