Quarry within one hectare area exempted from environment clearance

Thiruvananthapuram: The State government Wednesday decided to exempt from environment clearance quarries functioning within one hectare land.
A decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting here today, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told reporters.
The quarry owners were also on agitating mode over various demands and there was shortage of granite even for development projects, he said.
The Cabinet decided to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle for the purpose of implementing broad band connectivity under the Centre's Bharat Net scheme.
A high-level committee with Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) as Chairman has been constituted to prepare details of the project and work out the plan for implementation, he added.
