Thiruvananthapuram: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has said the police will not take any action against those who kill rabid and dangerous stray dogs.

In a Facebook post on his official page, the Congress leader said the government cannot remain a mute spectator as the stray dog menace had emerged as a law and order issue.

“Hence, nothing illegal in killing dangerous stray dogs which attack people.”

Earlier, the State DGP had directed the police to take necessary action against those who are engaged in illegal culling of stray dogs.

The minister’s clarification came in the wake of widespread protest from the public against the police decision.
