DCC functionary allegedly commits suicide at party office

Wayanad: District Congress Committee General Secretary P V John, who unsuccessfully contested in the civic polls, was found hanging in the block Congress office near Mananthavady in Wayanad district Sunday, police said.
John of Payyampally had called one of his party colleagues and asked him to come to the party office to collect the keys. When he came to the office at 8-30 he found John hanging from the ceiling fan, police said.
It was suspected that John could have taken the decision after losing the poll from the Puthanpura ward of Mananthavady.
He came third by polling 39 votes against an independent who bagged 346 votes. Congress rebel Sabu Manithotti polled 195 votes.
John had earlier served as Mananthavady panchayat member and Farmers Bank director, police said.
