Thiruvananthapuram: CPI(M) protesters on Thursday evening threw a slipper at the vehicle of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and waved black flags at a public function near the state capital. The slipper, however, did not hit him.

The incident occurred when Chandy, assembly Speaker N. Sakthan and Social Justice Minister M.K. Muneer arrived in an open jeep to inaugurate a swimming pool near Balaramapuram.

Police officials said the slipper missed Chandy, and instead hit one of his security officials.

Muneer said the people of the village will isolate those involved in "such a shameful act".

The Communist Party of India-Marxist was yet to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the protesters did not throw footwear at the Chief Minister. “They were showing the black flags against him,” he said.
