Ready to probe Kathiroor murder case: CBI
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has given its consent to take over the case relating to the murder of a senior RSS functionary at Kathiroor in Kannur district.
CBI director Ranjit Sinha said the CBI has sent a letter in this regard to the Union Department of Personnel, which will issue a formal notification after which the Central agency will take over the FIR registered by the Kerala Police in the case.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, after visiting the family of murdered RSS leader at Kathiroor, had said a decision on a probe by the CBI, recommended by the State government, into the murder case would be taken soon.
The Minister had also said he had spoken to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after the murder and demanded that action be taken to end violence in the region.
The prime accused in the case is already under arrest and police are on the lookout for others.
K.T Manoj (43), a local RSS functionary, was hacked to death and another one suffered serious injuries in an attack by a group of assailants on September 1.
Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan had expressed displeasure over Home Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Kathiroor.
