Thiruvananthapuram: Expressing concerns over reported diversion of urea meant for Kerala to Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Thursday asked the Centre to ensure that the supply reached the state.

In a letter to Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar, he said reports that two wagons of urea meant for Kerala had been diverted to Tamil Nadu has caused concern among farmers in the state.

He asked the Centre to take steps to ensure that the load of urea meant for Kerala reached its destination. Chandy said farmers in the state are in distress due to non-availabilty of urea since the last two months.

The Centre had handed over two rake load of urea to Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers for distribution in Kerala. However, "due to pressure" put by Tamil Nadu, this load of urea had been diverted to that state, he said.

Chandy sought the intervention of Union Minister for distribution of urea in Kerala as decided earlier.
