Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Tuesday congratulated Dronacharya Award winner Jose Jacob, the rowing coach, and Arjuna Award winners from the state.

Those recommended for the Arjuna award from the state are Tom Joseph (volleyball), Tintu Luka (athletics), Geethu Anna Jose (basketball), V Diju (badminton) and Saji Thomas (rowing).

Chandy said these sportspersons were Kerala's pride and an inspiration to the young talents of the state.

Reacting to the announcement, Joseph, ace volleyball player, said though the recognition came late, he had no remorse.

'Though this award is late, I am happy', Joseph told Malayalam TV channels.

Arjuna award had eluded Joseph, who represented the country in many internationals, in the past 10 years.

Joseph had led the Indian national volleyball team in Dubai in 2000 when it won the gold medal.
