Gothenburg: Sweden’s Gothenburg airport on Wednesday witnessed one of a kind protest when a student passenger stalled the deportation of an Afghan asylum seeker.

Elin Ersson, student at Gothenburg University, was travelling to Turkey with her friend when she noticed an asylum seeker due to be deported. An asylum activist herself, Elin Ersson didn’t wait a moment before started live-streaming on Facebook, protesting against the man’s deportation.

She refused to sit down until the man was take off the plane, reported CNN. In her video she was heard explaining to stewards and passengers about her stand. Her protest, however, did not go well with all passengers, nevertheless many supported her. Meanwhile, stewards asked her both sit down and stop filming. But Elin Ersson would not listen to them, and said, “ I don't want a man's life to be taken away just because you don't want to miss your flight. I am doing what I can to save a person's life.” She was quoted as saying.

She said the man would most likely get killed if he got deported to Afghanistan. "I'm trying to change my country's rules. I don't like them. It's not right to send people to hell," she said.

Eventually, both Ersson and the deportee were taken out of the plane to the applause of passengers. Later Swedish authorities confirmed to CNN that the man’s was a forced deportation.
