Hong Kong: Hong Kong Police Sunday condemned protestors for attempting to charge police cordon lines, saying such acts undermine public order and threaten safety of its personnel and others.

The second turbulent night erupted late Saturday in the main demonstration area of Mong Kok following the removal of tents, canopies and barricades which blocked the main roads in and around the site for almost three weeks, Xinhua reported.

Police said they had warned the protestors repeatedly against their charge attempts and were forced to use minimum force to disperse them in a bid to bring the situation under control after the warning was ignored.

Four people, including a police officer, were injured during the charging attempt. Besides, a man was arrested for possession of two knives.

Peace has been restored in the area, although hundreds of protestors still remain on the street in a standoff with police.

Thousands of protestors, mostly students, joined the Occupy Central movement Sep 28 calling for an electoral reform package for choosing the region's next leader.

According to Hong Kong's law, more than five million civilians can choose the chief executive in 2017 through a "one man, one vote" election.
