US deportations 2025: 3,800 Indians deported amid immigration crackdown
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Trump administration deported over 3,800 Indian nationals from the United States in 2025 as part of its aggressive immigration enforcement, revealed Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in Parliament.
In a written response to Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala's query on deportations over the last five years, Singh specified that 3,414 Indians were removed by mid-December. These deportations occurred primarily through Indian consulates in New York (47), Atlanta (31), Houston (234), San Francisco (49), and Seattle (31).
Saudi Arabia led with over 12,000 Indian deportations last year, followed by high numbers from Malaysia, Myanmar, the UAE, and neighboring China. The data underscores the scale of illegal migration challenges facing Indian workers abroad.
India has raised strong concerns with Washington over the "inhumane" treatment of deportees, including the use of shackles and chains, particularly on women and children, during removal operations. " The government is in constant dialogue with the US government regarding the need for “humane treatment” of Indian nationals during such deportation operations," Singh stated.
To combat illegal migration via the notorious "Dunki route" to North America, India has intensified crackdowns on human trafficking syndicates and unlicensed recruiting agents. Over 3,505 unregistered agents have been blacklisted on the eMigrate portal, which mandates emigration clearance for ECR passport holders traveling to 19 high-risk countries. Central and state agencies continue investigations against criminal networks exploiting vulnerable youth.
