UP man arrested over derogatory social media post on Prophet
text_fieldsShahjahanpur: A Hindu man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur after allegedly posting derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad and the Quran on Facebook, triggering strong protests from the Muslim community.
The incident took place on Saturday evening, September 13, when angry crowds gathered outside the Sadar Kotwali police station demanding the arrest of the accused, identified as KK Dixit.
Although Dixit was taken into custody, protests continued for several hours, with demonstrators raising slogans and refusing to disperse. Police eventually used mild force to control the situation, which led to a brief stampede. Slippers and belongings were left scattered on the road as people fled in panic.
Qasim Raza, a member of the Idgah committee, urged the community to remain calm. “The police have arrested Dixit, but I demand that such people should be given the harshest punishment. People’s anger is justified, but I appeal to everyone to maintain peace. We should not take the law into our hands,” he told local media.
Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi also appealed for peace, asking residents not to pay heed to rumors spreading on social media.
