A Muslim head constable with the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Uttar Pradesh has resigned from his position, stating that he wants to enter politics and work towards strengthening communal harmony.

Mohammad Jamshed, who was posted in the Bareilly region, came into the spotlight after a video message and his resignation letter circulated on social media.

In his resignation reportedly submitted to Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya, Jamshed said he had served the police department with honesty, dedication and discipline throughout his career, Siasat Daily reported.

He expressed gratitude for the respect and identity he received from wearing the police uniform and said he had no grievances against the department, Siasat Daily reported.

Jamshed said he was concerned about rising communal tensions in the country and state, claiming that increasing divisions were causing people to turn against each other. He said he wanted to leave the police force and enter politics to work towards peace, unity and brotherhood.

In a video statement, Jamshed said society needed greater trust and harmony, adding that while external threats could be confronted, internal divisions among people were a bigger challenge. He said politics would provide him with a platform to promote secular values and social unity.

According to reports, the railway police department has not yet officially received his resignation, and authorities have not confirmed whether it will be accepted.

Jamshed also claimed that he had earlier been sent to the police lines on disciplinary grounds, though details regarding the matter have not been officially disclosed. Despite the internal issues, he said he continued to maintain discipline and respect for the police force.
