UP bus conductor, fired for halting bus to allow passengers offer namaz, commits suicide
text_fieldsUP state government bus conductor Mohit Yadav, 32, committed suicide after being suspended with the driver on June 3 for allegedly allowing two Muslim passengers to perform namaz after the bus had been stopped for two minutes.
Yadav, who went missing on August 27th, killed himself in Mainpuri by jumping in front of a moving train. The following morning, his body was discovered on the railway tracks close to his home, Maktoob Media reported.
Yadav resided in Nagla Khushali, which is within the Ghiror police jurisdiction in Mainpuri.
For more than eight years, he had worked as a contract employee for UPSRTC, earning around Rs 17,000 per month.
On the Bareilly-Delhi national highway three months ago, Yadav and the driver, KP Singh, allegedly stopped the bus for two minutes so that two Muslim passengers could offer namaz. Two days following the incident, on June 5, they were both suspended with "immediate effect."
The bus stopped, according to the driver, so that some passengers could use the toilet. When two Muslim passengers requested that he allow them to perform 'namaz,' the driver consented.
“He had no money and was struggling to make ends meet,” Yadav’s friend was quoted as saying.
“We used to work together. When he called me up on Sunday night, he had no money to even recharge his phone. He said that despite having filed an appeal there was no hope of getting the job back,” Yadav’s friend said.
