Telangana govt orders closure of all transport check posts
text_fieldsHyderabad: The Telangana Transport Department on Wednesday officially abolished all check posts, acting on directives from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
All Deputy Transport Commissioners and District Transport Officers have been instructed to immediately suspend all operations and submit a closure report by 5:00 pm. The Transport Department issued orders to implement the CM’s instructions without delay.
The move, following earlier allegations of corruption at the check posts, is expected to speed up the transportation network, improve transparency, and reduce administrative burden and costs. Telangana had retained check posts even after several states removed them post-GST implementation.
Authorities have been directed to ensure smooth vehicular movement without obstruction. All boards, barricades, and structures at the checkpoints are to be removed, with new signage installed in relevant languages highlighting online services. Services like temporary travel permits and motor vehicle tax payments will now be handled online.
The order also mandates that the removal of physical barriers and signage be videographed, with footage preserved and submitted along with the compliance report. Equipment, furniture, and records from the check posts are to be transferred to the respective District Transport Offices, with officials ensuring safe preservation of all financial and administrative records.
