Chennai: A 23-year-old woman in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore was arrested on Wednesday for wielding machetes, sickles, and knives in videos shared on social media.

The woman identified as B Vinodhini alias Kovai Tamanna, living in Virudhunagar, was previously arrested in 2021 for possessing marijuana, officials reportedly said.

The Coimbatore district police were monitoring the activities of anti-social elements following rise of gang rivalry and were collecting a list of anti-social elements when they came across the videos of Kovai Tamanna.

After Tamanna’s videos reportedly showing her mouthing provocative lyrics, brandishing sharp weapons emerged, police started searching for her.

Shortly later another video of her emerged in which she claimed she was peacefully living with her husband and those videos circulating on social media were short two years ago. Kovai Tamanna claimed that she was six months pregnant.

Police arrested her from Sankagiri in Salem on Wednesday and brought to Coimbatore, before charging her under the Arms Act. She was remanded in judicial custody till March 29.

Kovai Tamanna’s lawyer A Usha Devi claimed she was arrested in a narcotics case after she failed to appear before the court despite there was a warrant.
