SpiceJet aircraft catches fire at Delhi airport
text_fieldsNew Delhi: A SpiceJet aircraft on Tuesday caught fire during maintenance works at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, officials said.
No injuries were reported from the incident, a senior SpiceJet official said.
As per the official, a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was under maintenance and while carrying out engine ground run at idle power at bay, the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) observed a fire warning on one of the engines.
"Aircraft fire extinguisher bottle was discharged. As a precaution, a fire brigade was called. Aircraft and maintenance personnel are safe," the official added.
A video of the incident also surfaced on social media and is going viral, showing a section of the aircraft on fire, emitting thick smoke.
