New Delhi: Renowned Indian fashion designer Rohit Bal passed away on Friday at the age of 63, after battling health issues following a heart ailment last year. The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) confirmed his death.

Bal had recently made a triumphant return to the fashion scene with his collection "Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe" at Lakmé Fashion Week, featuring actor Ananya Pandey as his showstopper.

The FDCI paid tribute to Bal, stating, "We mourn the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal, a founding member of FDCI. His unique blend of traditional patterns with modern sensibilities redefined Indian fashion and inspired generations."

Bal's health had been declining due to dilated cardiomyopathy, a serious heart condition. Despite complications, including heart pain and kidney failure, Bal continued to contribute to the fashion world.

Born on May 8, 1961, in Srinagar, Kashmir, Bal graduated in history from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi, and later trained at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). He co-founded Orchid Overseas Pvt. Ltd. in 1986 and debuted solo in 1990, transforming into a fashion sensation.

Bal was known for his attention to detail and was the first designer to patent and copyright his designs. His work extended beyond couture to, jewellery, accessories, and costume design for shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Ananya Pandey, and other Bollywood celebs mourn the iconic designer's death.
“Dear Gudda I heard about your passing on my way to celebrate Diwali in your gorgeous creation that you generously lent to me for the second time. I’ve been blessed to have known you and worn you and walked for you multiple times. I hope you’re at peace. Always your biggest fan." Sonam Kapoor wrote.

Beyond India, Bal's designs have adorned global icons such as Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell
