New Delhi: The BJP leadership is up in arms after Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of having helped billionaire Gautam Adani’s business empire.
Calling for action against Rahul Gandhi, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla accusing Rahul Gandhi of violating rules by "misleading the house", NDTV reported.
Nishikant Dubey said Rahul Gandhi’s statements were "misleading, derogatory and indecent", adding that the Congress leader made “unverified, incriminatory and defamatory statements”.
Rahul Gandhi, who pulled off a 3,500-km cross country march, accused PM Modi of crony capitalism without what Dubey said any "documentary evidence".
Dubey wrote in his letter that during the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi had not submitted “any duly authenticated document for supporting his statements”.
"As such, he has made a statement which amounts to misleading of the House in the absence of any documentary evidence," Dubey reportedly wrote.
Dubey requested the speaker to take action against “Rahul Gandhi for breach of privilege and contempt of House”.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju countered Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, saying the Congress had favoured companies including the Tatas, the Birlas and the Ambanis.
Rahul Gandhi’s attack comes just as the Adani Group is still reeling from the impact of US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research’s allegations against it.
The Adani Group hit back at the Hindenburg report calling it a "malicious combination of selective misinformation and stale, baseless and discredited allegations that have been tested and rejected by India's highest courts".
