Prashant Kishor’s prediction on Vijay and TVK's success gains attention

Political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor’s prediction from last year about actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam winning the Tamil Nadu Assembly election has resurfaced as vote counting continues on Monday.

The debutant party is leading in more than 100 seats midway through counting in the 234-member Assembly, turning the traditional DMK versus AIADMK contest into a three-cornered fight.

In February 2025, while attending TVK’s first anniversary event in Mahabalipuram, Kishor had confidently predicted a strong performance for Vijay’s party.

“I have to compete with Dhoni, who makes Chennai Super Kings win,” Kishor had joked while speaking about becoming “the most popular Bihari in Tamil Nadu” if he helped TVK secure victory in the Assembly election.

Months earlier, Kishor had said TVK could realistically secure 15 to 20 per cent vote share.

In March 2025, he further said that TVK had a strong chance of winning the state if certain political conditions played out.

“My understanding and data suggests that if he goes alone, he stands a very good chance to win Tamil Nadu,” Kishor had said in an interview.

He had laid out three key conditions for Vijay’s success: AIADMK aligning with the BJP, DMK retaining its existing support base, and TVK contesting independently.

“If the AIADMK goes with BJP, DMK holds the way it is, and TVK fights alone – take it in writing – he stands a very good chance,” Kishor had said, while stressing that Vijay also needed to build a strong political infrastructure and actively work as a politician.

When questioned about Vijay being an untested political figure, Kishor responded by saying, “Hope is the biggest strategy.”

Kishor’s association with TVK began in February 2025 and continued until July, before he shifted focus to his Jan Suraaj Party’s Bihar Assembly campaign. Although his party failed to win seats in Bihar, his political guidance to Vijay has drawn renewed attention as the Tamil Nadu results unfold.
