In a serious security lapse, a man managed to enter the Parliament complex early Friday morning by climbing a tree and scaling a 20-metre-high wall from the Rail Bhavan side.

The incident occurred around 6:30 am, officials confirmed.

The intruder reached the Garuda Gate of the new Parliament building, which is about 15 metres away from the wall, before being apprehended by security personnel. He is currently being interrogated, authorities said.

The breach comes just a day after the monsoon session of Parliament concluded, marked by frequent disruptions.

This is not the first such incident in recent years.

In 2023, on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, two men jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber during Zero Hour, releasing yellow gas and shouting slogans before being subdued by MPs. Simultaneously, two others sprayed coloured gas outside the premises. All six people linked to the incident were later arrested.

Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court sought the Delhi Police’s response to a bail plea filed by one of the accused, Lalit Jha.

Similarly, last year, another man in his early 20s scaled the Parliament wall and jumped inside the Annexe building. He was caught by CISF personnel, and no incriminating material was found during frisking.

Authorities are now probing the latest breach to assess possible lapses in security arrangements around the high-security zone.
