A protest by nursing students outside the Bihar University of Health Sciences in Patna turned violent on Tuesday, leaving two police personnel injured, officials said.

Scores of nursing students gathered outside the university campus to press for their demands. During the protest, students vandalised the Aryabhatta University campus and assaulted staff members.

A clash broke out between the protesters and police personnel. Two policemen, including a female officer, were injured, while protesters also smashed the windshields of several cars.

The students alleged that police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the gathering, which led to the clash.

Additional police personnel were deployed at the site and brought the situation under control. Police remained stationed outside the university and continued to monitor the situation.

One of the injured policemen, identified as Jitendra Kumar, suffered injuries to his head and leg and is undergoing treatment.

The students had gathered at the university to raise their demands, though the specific demands were not immediately clear.
