Delhi: A senior bank manger’s ruthless response to a woman employee’s request for leave to take care of her ailing mother has gone viral on social media.

A post on Reddit recounts the incident involving a senior woman employee at a private bank where she had been working for several years, Free Press Journal reported.

The post, shared on the r/IndianWorkplace forum, said the woman requested a few days of leave as her mother was critically ill following a medication error.

The post made it clear that the she was not seeking any special favour but some time to take care of her mother.

The manger allegedly responded in a cold and dismissive way telling the employee to report to work after placing her mother in medical or shelter home if she did not recover.

The manger’s callous remark forced the woman to choose her ailing mother over her job.

Subsequently, the woman resigned from the organization that she severed for several years.

The author of the post said that incident unsettled him and sought others' views about it.

Many users came out expressing anger and disbelief at the apparent lack of empathy on the part of the manager.

Some called for legal protections while others suggested that employees demand written instructions from such authorities.

Many pointed to corporate environments prioritizing work over humanity, even during personal crises.
